Atsumi is one of Nagoya Players’ most veteran performers, having appeared in seven productions since 2018. When we think about what it means to be an ideal Nagoya Player, Atsumi immediately comes to mind. Her dedication and passion have been remarkable, and we are deeply grateful to have her in our group. Without her, it’s hard to imagine where Nagoya Players would be—truthfully, it would not be Nagoya Players without her.

Atsumi’s next role is GRACE, a divorcee on a journey of self-discovery, in our upcoming production, Scenes From a Bad Film: Lived Out in Real Time. This role pushes her into new and greater challenges than ever before, and we’re thrilled to see her continue to grow into a versatile actor with range and daring. We hope to keep creating shows with her year after year—she truly is the best of us.

Please watch this interview with Atsumi to learn more about her journey with Nagoya Players: how she began, some of her struggles, and how performance continues to shape her daily life.

Special thanks to Hiromi Kasai and her YouTube channel 休撮_Days Off_HIROMI for visiting us. Hiromi has interviewed dozens of fascinating people with unique passions and pursuits, shining a light on the extraordinary lives of ordinary people. SFABF | Meet the writer and Devil

Get an exclusive look at Nagoya Players’ groundbreaking new production, Scenes From a Bad Film: Lived Out in Real Time. In this interview, director Shawn Mahler and actress Emily Bailey pull back the curtain on the creation of a show that’s already capturing attention for its daring style and unforgettable performances.

Shawn explains how the play was born out of a writer’s challenge and inspired by the endless stream of content we consume every day. He calls it “Doomscroll Theater”—a new kind of stage experience that mirrors the chaotic energy of our digital lives. With rapid, smash-cut scenes and overlapping narratives, the show demands that audiences stay alert, fully engaged, and ready for anything.

Emily Bailey takes us into the heart of her role as DEVIL, one of the play’s most striking and unsettling characters. From her first impression of the script to the way she developed DEVIL’s physicality, voice, and presence, Emily shares how this violent yet lyrical figure came to life on stage. She also reflects on the intense dynamics between DEVIL, ANGEL, and DOMINIQUE, and what she hopes audiences will feel when DEVIL takes command of the spotlight.

✨ Bold, experimental, and unlike anything you’ve seen before—this is Nagoya Players reinventing theater for today’s world.

One important thing to know about Leoni: She is one of the sweetest people we’ve worked with, but please do not hand her any breakable props. She’s stronger than she looks;)

(日本語と英語の字幕) Yoko is new to Nagoya Players and has impressed us with her passion, commitment, and ability. She’ll be playing the role of ABRAHAM and is also a key member of ENSEMBLE in Nagoya Players’ upcoming production on Romeo & Juliet.

Yoko is a great example of a newcomer who flourishes with training and practice. She first started with NP during our Acting Basics Workshop and showed great potential. From there, she auditioned and got a part in the show. And even though Yoko’s English isn’t perfect, she doesn’t let that stop her from participating and getting better.

Yoko has put in a lot of work preparing for the show, and we’re so excited to see her perform in her first English play. Please come out and support her and the other members of cast.

Interview with Romeo & Juliet’s Nandini Shah

(日本語と英語の字幕) Nandini Shah is a new member of Nagoya Players and new to stage performance. She has been a shining example of someone who has taken their interest in the performing arts from simple curiosity to brilliant reality.

Nandini is a professional educator as well as an admirer of Shakespeare. As a teacher, she wanted to do more than just read and examine the texts of Shakespeare’s plays. Over the past year, she has embraced the challenge of learning how the plays are performed by actually performing in one of them.

Nandini will be playing LADY CAPULET in NP’s upcoming production of Romeo & Juliet. She has done a fantastic job learning stage performance, and every week we are impressed with her continued growth as a performer. Nandini is a powerful presence on stage, and we are certain her portrayal of LADY CAPULET will be a memorable one.

In this interview, we get to know more about Nandini, her background, motivations, and experience as a first-time performer with NP. Please come and support her and all the other wonderful new members of cast this September!
