Nagoya Players is excited to announce auditions for our upcoming production of Edward Albee’s The Sandbox, and The American Dream, Counting the Ways. These shows are all one-act plays between 15-30 minutes each.
Edward Albee is a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning playwright. Several of his shows have been featured On-Broadway. His plays are known for their witty and cerebral dialogue. Albee is famed for his fearless approach to addressing social issues in an open, frank and cynical manner.
Adult language and themes are used in each show. The themes presented in this selection are very abstract in tone. The Sandbox deals with issues related to the treatment of the elderly. The American Dream dives deep into consumerism and its problematic value-system. Counting the Ways is an experimental piece about a loveless marriage between a middle-aged husband and wife.
Available roles are dialogue intensive and very meaty. Actors are free to audition for multiple shows.
Auditions will be held, in-person, Sunday, September 18 at IPE Academy in Imaike. Please RSVP via the form on our website. Auditions typically take between 20~30 minutes. Audition materials will be provided beforehand.
The Edward Albee One-Acts is tentatively scheduled to take stage Spring 2023. Rehearsals will be in-person at Uchiyama Community Center in Imaike on Sundays. The show will be directed by Nagoya Players’ Artistic Director, Shawn Mahler.
