Nagoya Players Junior is proud to present our first in a series of annual variety-act showcases designed for children. Through the Charity Showcase we aim to promote English-language study in a fun and educational environment. And what’s more, children who have completed NP Junior’s Acting, Dancing, and Singing workshops will get the opportunity to perform on stage!
Proceeds and donations from the show will be distributed to local charities in Aichi.
We are very grateful to IPE Academy for being our Show Sponsor for the 2020 Charity Showcase. IPE has been a long time supporter of the Nagoya Players and instrumental in helping us create our NP Junior series of workshops and programs for children.
IPE Academy is one of the oldest privately owned Eikawa in Nagoya. They teach all levels from children to adults. IPE offers a unique curriculum of Art+English and Music+English for Japanese children. They also cater to the Japanese-language learning community and have helped many students pass the JLPT.

Mr Joe’s ESL Magic
Mr Joe is one of Nagoya’s best magicians. He has crafted a special English-learning magic show that will amuse and amaze both children and adults. ESL Magic features cutting-edge modern magic as well as classic illusions. You’ll see magic that Mr Joe has learned from master magicians in this interactive and humorous show.
Kid’s English-Rakugo: The Zoo
Rakugo Performer, Mr. Hiroyuki Ota (太田博之) will retell the classic Rakugo story, The Zoo in English. The story has been customized for children with simple and clear English by local playwright and author Shawn Mahler. Mr. Ota’s funny, expressive and fast-paced storytelling perfectly blends together Japanese and English performance. We’re very excited about this show. It is a very special and rare combination of cross-cultural acting and narrative!
NP Junior’s Act In English presents, Town Mice, Country Mice
Actress, singer and now director, Naudia Patterson has been training the children enrolled in our Act In English workshop for over a year. The culmination of all their hard work will be a live performance based on the classic Aesop fable, The Town Mouse & The Country Mouse. Written by Naudia Patterson and Shawn Mahler this play has been designed to teach children the basics of stagecraft and performance in a creative and nurturing English-speaking environment. We’re so proud of these younger performers. With ages ranging from 4 to 13, they’ve come together and learned how to perform an entire play as a team. We’re really looking forward to their acting debuts!
