We recommend you come to Nanjare Theater from from exit 4, Kamejima Station on the Higashiyama (yellow) Line. The theater is an 8 minute walk from Exit 4. After exiting, turn left and then turn left again immediately at the first intersection you come to. There will be a “geo” something on the right. Go straight and turn right at the intersection with an Indian restaurant. There is a Lawson 100 yen store and the stairs to Nanajare Theater are to the right of that Lawson. The theater is on the 4th floor.

Anger is a Nagoya Players exclusive adaptation of Reginald Rose’s 1954 Twelve Angry Men. The drama depicts a jury forced to determine the fate of a teenage boy and his possible involvement in the homicide of his father. The jury begins deliberations with a unanimous decision of guilty, but a single dissenter of not-guilty throws the jury room into chaos. The seed of reasonable doubt is implanted in their minds as to whether a young man could murder his own father, whether judgments are being made based of fact, emotion, prejudice or bias.
Anger was based on the drama Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose, adapted for black box theater by Shawn Mahler, and directed by Will Taylor. Anger ran April 5, 6, & 12, 2014 at Theater Moon in Imaike.

Nagoya Players is proud to present the first ever performance outside the United States of Thomas Stobart’s enchanting short play, “Ever After” at Aichi Vision on Sunday, October 11th, 2015 at Tsuruma Koen.
“Ever After” is a ballet of words that elegantly weaves a tapestry revealing the complications of attachment and connection. Focused on two cautious “I’s” teetering on the delicate balance of becoming an “us”, this story unfolds in a single compelling act.
It’s a love story that follows the awkward trail of a troubled young woman named Ellen who first finds comfort, then company and finally companionship in the little shop where she picks up her morning coffee. The owner, a terribly lonely but very guarded and slightly terrified older man named Fred, gradually hands over pieces of his heart each time he hands Ellen her change.
“Ever After” debuted at the Cornerstone Project Foundation of Wheeling, West Virginia, later garnered attention at the Pittsburgh New Works Festival and was eventually produced for a run at the 29th Street Repertory Theatre in New York City. It is perhaps Stobart’s signature piece from a body of work consisting of over 17 one-act plays and six full-length scripts written over the last four decades. Tom is also the proprietor of Paradox Books of Centre Wheeling. Both he and the shop are local icons.
This first Nagoya performance is being produced in cooperation with The Nagoya Players and Aichi Vision and will feature the talents of local performers Aya Kawakami and Joe Hindman who are very much looking forward to sharing this wonderful and touching story with you.

Aichi Vision is an International Charity Film, Music & Arts Festival held once a year in Tsuruma Park. It showcases local and international filmmakers and their short movies, with film submissions from as far away as Norway and South Africa. Over the years the festival has raised thousands of dollars for local charities.

One of our goals as an organization is fostering a love of the English language through consuming and producing English language theater. Towards that goal we have produced, with an assist from IPE Academy, a worksheet which can be used at your eikaiwa or other language school.
Feel free to use this as a part of your course curriculum or English discussion classes. If you work in education and are interested in working with the Players to foster a love of English language theater in your own students, get in touch. We would love to hear from you.
英会話を習ってる方が英語劇をより楽しんでいただく為にワークシートを作成しました。観劇の前に、チョット予習していくと劇のストーリーが理解しやすくなりますよ。
Big Thanks to Geoffrey Griggs who stopped by to photograph the cast at work.

The Nagoya Players Spring 2015 show was David Williamson’s The Club.
Tradition versus modernity; loyalty versus the almighty dollar; such are the competitive forces at play at The Club. The Nagoya Players return performance following their successful Spring 2014 production of Anger. In The Club they will be presenting a modern take on Australian playwright David Williamson’s iconic work on the changing face of sport as a commentary on the changing values of the greater community.
The action centers around a football club boardroom in the hours before a crucial meeting of the membership. There has been tension building within the halls of the club for years, and a severe slump on the field has brought all of the tensions to a head. Grudges both old and new abound between management, coaches and players, and the future of not only the club itself, but also everyone within it is on the line. There is a power struggle underlying all of this, and who will emerge with their place within the club, let alone their reputation intact, is far from certain.
The Club was performed at Himawari Hall in Marunouchi and ran:
