Scenes from a Bad Film Auditions

Nagoya Players is excited to announce auditions for our upcoming production of Scenes from a Bad Film Lived Out in Real Time by local author Shawn Mahler. A raw and unflinching exploration of sex, drugs, money, family, and identity, this powerful work delves into the complex web of human relationships and societal forces that shape who we are.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Set in our current moment, Scenes from a Bad Film weaves together the lives of several  characters grappling with the choices that define their world. As desires clash with duty and ambition collides with love, the play challenges audiences to confront their own perspectives on morality, ethics, and self-discovery.

Scenes from a Bad Film is written for mature audiences, with themes and content that offer an honest, sometimes uncomfortable, but always thought-provoking look at the human condition. Through sharp dialogue and deeply nuanced characters, Shawn Mahler has crafted a story that resonates long after the final curtain falls.

Romeo & Juliet: Ensemble & Understudy Auditions

Nagoya Players is thrilled to announce auditions for our upcoming production of William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet.

      SEEKING

Nagoya Players is seeking actors who would like to be part of the Ensemble Cast, as well as Understudies for our upcoming production of Romeo & Juliet.

Ensemble will be asked to participate in dance routines and/or perform non-speaking roles.

Understudies will be asked to learn speaking roles and to support Principal actors in preparation for the show. In the event a Principal becomes unavailable, Understudies will have the opportunity to take on those roles.

Our current cast for Romeo & Juliet is leaning heavily on female performers, which we love, but we’d really like to encourage more male performers to get involved.

      AUDITIONS

Auditions will be held via ZOOM. Please RSVP via the form on our website. Auditions typically take about 20 minutes. Audition materials will be provided beforehand.

Romeo & Juliet is scheduled to take stage September 28-29, 2024. Weekly rehearsals will be in-person at Uchiyama Community Center in Imaike on Sundays. The show will be directed by Ana Valdes Lim.

      RSVP

Please fill in the form below and we will contact you shortly to schedule a day and time for your audition. Please remember to check your spam/junk folder as messages are sometimes redirected there.

        ABOUT THE SHOW

Romeo and Juliet is one of William Shakespeare’s most famous plays. The original story was set in the Italian city of Verona and revolved around the passionate love between two young members of feuding noble families, the Montagues and the Capulets. Themes of love, fate, youth, and destruction are presented for the audience with both humor and heartbreak.

In this new adaptation, we will keep in place the love, romance, and tragedy while at the same time incorporate elements of music and dance. Show Director, Ana Valdes Lim, has carefully re-envisioned the script for modern audiences with faster pacing and visual appeal. The show will be performed in Shakespearean English with modern set and costume.

A Nagoya Players show typically takes 1 year to create. In order to prepare the show in time, we need to start our planning and pre-production now. NP will do its best to follow all recommended guidelines for social distancing and virus protection. For the time being, we will conduct as many activities as possible online.

There are still many concerns about COVID-19 but we are hopeful the risks will be considerably fewer by Summer 2021. It is a very uncertain and unstable time for performers and live entertainment. We will be monitoring the situation daily. Plans, schedules, and activities may change due to virus concerns.

                  ABOUT THE SHOW

Our Town by Thornton Wilder is a Pulitzer Prize-winning play that has become one of America’s best known and most beloved shows. The story centers on the residents in the small town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire. It’s a story of the ‘every-town’, a place we are all familiar with. Grover’s Corners represents core values shared by communities and cultures all across the world.

The show is performed in three Acts, with each act embracing the themes of Life, Love and Death.

Wilder’s writing has been praised for his beautiful delivery of universal truths. He speaks clearly and openly about what it means to be human. Our Town is a wonderful combination of humor, wisdom and sincerity. It is a fantastic show to experience live and a story that will stay with you forever.
