Hana-mi 2024 Postponed•延期
今週水曜日の花見パーティですが、延期とさせていただきます。天気予報によると、雨、強風、寒さと３拍子揃い、こんな日に外でおしゃべりしてたら風邪をひいてしまいそうで、お花見日和ではなさそうです。延期となる日時はまだ決まっていませんが、決まりましたらお知らせいたします。
名古屋プレイヤーズとジュニアと両方で４０名ほど参加予定でしたが、次の機会にお会いできることを楽しみにしています。
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the weather will be very pleasant on Wednesday afternoon. We’re expecting cold temperatures, strong wind, and rain. Not the ideal conditions for a Hana-mi party. We have decided to reschedule the event. At the moment, we don’t have a date in mind, but we will post new details as soon as they become available.
We apologize to everyone who has signed up. We had a very large group coming to this year’s party, but don’t worry, we will be getting back together soon.

場所：内山公園（内山コミュニティーセンター、内山小学校の裏）
今年も花見パーティ開催します。名古屋プレイヤーズ＆ジュニアのキャストの皆さん、ご家族、お友達など皆さんでご参加ください。
お花見スタイルは日本だとお弁当ですが、西洋スタイルでBYOB（Bring Your Own Booze) 自分の飲み物持参とPot Luck （みんなでシェアできる食べ物）の持ち寄りスタイルにします。シェアするものはスナック菓子ではなく、食事を持ち寄ってみんなで分け合います。
今年は桜の開花が早そうですが、３月２０日まで桜が咲いていてくれるといいです。久しぶりに皆さんで楽しく食べて飲んで、去年の舞台や今年の舞台について語り合いましょう！２０２４年度の舞台も計画中です。お楽しみに！！

We have a very active 2024 planned, and what better way to start off the year than by having a party with friends:) Performers and Crew from upcoming and past productions will be around to discuss theater, relax and chill. And if you want to get involved in an upcoming production we’ll be discussing plans and sharing information.
This is a BYOB event. Please bring your own food and drinks, and a little extra to share:) The weather may still be chilly, so dress appropriately.

Hanami Party 2023 Wrap Up
Earlier this month Nagoya Players and Nagoya Players Junior members got together for a lovely afternoon in the park.
We overdid it a little with the snacks, but a definite highlight on our picnic table was Erica Hara’s fried chicken and homemade cookies. Also, special thanks to Magic Joe for providing us with some entertainment in the park. Joe’s power to mesmerize is stronger than ever, and the kids really enjoyed seeing all the tricks. Thank you to everyone who came to our hanami party. We plan on doing it again next Spring.
NP has grown a lot over the years, and it was wonderful to see the Junior group come together with the adults. We’ve built a strong and vibrant community, and we are very grateful so many talented people are a part of it.
We’ve got a busy 2023 with the Edward Albee Showcase on April 15-16, Untolled on September 8-10, and the NPJ Showcase in December. We’ll be making announcements soon about upcoming workshops and plans for the 2024 season. Please join us!

Leona’s Send-Off Party
Please join us Feb. 12 to say goodbye to one of Nagoya’s best actors and educators, Leona Cameron.
Leona will be relocating to Tokyo this Spring. She has been such a large and memorable part of several communities during her time in Nagoya. NP will particularly miss her as she has been absolutely amazing in every performance she has done with us. An actor of her talent and ability is rare, and we thank her for being a part of our troupe.
The Send-Off Party will be held at The Rock, Sun., Feb. 12, 18:30~20:30. Pay-as-you-go. Colleagues, co-workers, friends, neighbors…all are invited.
Joe Sichi may be convinced to prepare some homemade party dishes if we pressure him enough;)

多文化アイデンティティに関する講演
(English Below) この度は岐阜聖徳学園大学様より多文化アイデンティティに関する講演の依頼を受け、素晴らしい機会を与えてくださり感謝申し上げます。
この講演では英語劇団名古屋プレイヤーズ 総監督 ショーン マーラーが、名古屋プレイヤーズの沿革、英語劇の発展、日本人や英語学習者にとって英語劇を学んだり演じたりする事による効果などをお話します。
講演はどなたでも聴衆していただけますが、お席に制限がありますので、参加希望の方はお早めに担当トンプソン教授までお問合せください。尚、講演は中級レベルの英語で行われ、最後に質問の時間を設ける予定です。
演劇についてもっと学んでみたい方には素晴らしい機会となります。また、パフォーマンスのトレーニングやスキルが私たちの日常生活や社会生活に与える影響なども学んでいただけると幸いです。
では、多くの方のご来場をお待ちしています。
Special thanks to Gifu Shotoku Gakuen for inviting Nagoya Players to participate in its series of multicultural lectures.
NP’s Artistic Director, Shawn Mahler, will give a presentation in English about the history of Nagoya Players, the evolution of English-Language theater, and how it can benefit Japanese audiences, as well as language learners.
The lecture is open to the public. Space is limited. If you’d like to attend please contact Prof. Thompson for more information. The lecture will be given in English at an intermediate level. Q&A will follow the presentation.
This is a great lecture for anyone who wants to learn more about theater, and how performance training and skill development can aid you in your everyday life and work. Please join us!
NP Tea Ceremony
(日本語は英語に続く) Nagoya Players Production Manager Chifumi Arima is a well-established practitioner in the art of Japanese Tea Ceremony and has graciously offered to host a ceremony for NP.
Chifumi can guide beginners and non-Japanese speakers through the process in English. If you’ve ever been curious about this time-honored tradition, this is the perfect opportunity to partake and enjoy.
Traditional Japanese matcha and confections will be served.
After the ceremony is complete you’re also welcome to join us in the lounge for casual conversation and theater-talk.
If you’re in the mood for a relaxing afternoon of culture, friendly people and good conversation please join us.
This is an open invitation event. Several core NP members will be there and we’d love to meet you.

Nagoya Players Production Planning Meeting 2022
Nagoya Players Artistic Director Shawn Mahler will be leading a meeting to discuss possible shows and events for the 2023 theater season. There are a variety of shows that have been proposed. Some possibilities include:
- Works by Edward Albee, Eve Ensler, Anton Chekhov, O. Henry and more
- Original Full Length Plays
- Original One-Acts
- Musicals
- Training Workshops
While we’d love to do it all, unfortunately we can’t. We can realistically only select 1~2 shows for next season. If you’d like to be a part of the discussion and help us decide our upcoming schedule please join us.
NP shows are created through the teamwork, collaboration and volunteerism of our members. We want to hear from you and what gets you excited about theater.
This meeting is open to all active NP members, alumni and anyone who’d like to learn more about the group.

Chu Chu Tuesday with the Cast of Our Town
Join us May 10th, 21:30-22:30 (JST) for Chu Chu Tuesday featuring the leads of Nagoya Players’ upcoming production Our Town, Emily Bailey and Shinsuke Tsuda.
Chu Chu Tuesday is hosted by local Nagoya singer, songwriter and comedian May Chu Chu. It’s a fun-filled hour of quirky tales from Japan with a few songs and jokes sprinkled in;)
Ms. Chu Chu will be interviewing Emily and Shinsuke about the unique and inspirational production of NP’s Our Town. Please tune in to hear some behind the scenes stories, see a little drama on the interwebs and have a few laughs.
We sincerely thank May Chu Chu for inviting us to her show. May Chu Chu is a British musician, singer and versatile comedy cabaret entertainer based in Nagoya, Japan. She’s influenced by a variety of British comedy styles – from the simple pleasures of the more innocent music hall era, to the bizarre, unhinged, anarchic vulgarities of Monty Python, & the Young Ones.
She regularly has Nagoya in stitches on stage, as well as running her own mid-week livestream comedy & music show on YouTube, Chu Chu Tuesday.
