みんなで育む子どもの未来フェスティバル Wrap Up
(English below) 名古屋プレイヤーズJr.は３月５・６日開催「みんなで育む子どもの未来フェスティバル」に参加しました。そこでは３つのワークショップを催し、地域の子供達と一緒に英語でのパーフォーマンスを楽しむことができました。
一つ目のワークショップはビアジノ先生の「スティーブの誕生日」。滑稽なワンマンショーで、子供達と一緒にスティーブの誕生日会を準備します。風船ゲームをしたり、マジックツリーで単語学習したり、動物のパペットで歌を歌ったり、誕生日ケーキを焼いたり、大人も子供も笑いでいっぱいに包まれました。
２つ目のワークショップはジェフ先生は英語でダンス。体の部位や動きに関する英語を音楽に合わせて導入していきます。
ワークショップの終了時にはステップをマスターし、まるでミニポップスター！！
三つ目のワークショップはジョー先生の英語でマジックショー。次世代の子供達は不思議なトリックに釘付け。また、コイン、鉛筆、カード、輪ゴムを使って簡単なマジックを指導してくれました。
「みんなで育む子どもの未来フェスティバル」は主催者を始め多くのボランティアの方々のご尽力により大成功を収めることができました。名古屋プレイヤーズJr.は今後も子供達の未来に向けたワークショップ活動をしていきますので、またの機会に皆さんにお会いできることを楽しみにしています。

Nagoya Players Junior participated in みんなで育む子どもの未来フェスティバル (The Festival for the Nurturing of Our Children’s Future) and conducted a series of workshops to teach children both English and performance skills. It was an exciting weekend filled with laughing children and happy parents.
Biagino-sensei started off the event with his very funny one-man show Steve’s Birthday Party. In the show Biagino taught the children basic English vocabulary and together he and the children prepared a party for the titular Steve. There were balloons, a magic tree, and a birthday cake made with fish and cat food!
Next was Jeff-sensei’s Dance in English workshop. Jeff reviewed the parts of the body in English with the children and showed them how to move with the music. By the end of the workshop the kids learned a basic dance routine and looked like mini pop-stars!
And to finish the day Magic Joe inspired the next generation of young magicians with his ESL Magic workshop. Joe taught the children a variety of magic tricks with coins, pencils, cards and rubber bands. After a little practice they were able to do some very neat tricks.
みんなで育む子どもの未来フェスティバル was a huge success. We sincerely thank the organizers and everyone involved for inviting us. We look forward to putting on more workshops for children in the near future!
The Vagina Monologues
ABOUT THE SHOW
The Vagina Monologues first premiered in 1996. It was a groundbreaking show then and remains a hugely influential show to this day.
The internationally recognized and celebrated V-Day is just one part of TVM’s legacy. TVM and V-Day have both started movements across the world to end violence against women and girls. For over twenty years TVM has been both a beacon and an alarm. It has led to open and honest conversation about women, their identities and their struggles.
Nagoya Players is very proud and excited to once again bring this show to Japan. The world is constantly changing and in several ways it has changed for the better. Yet still, many of the challenges Eve Ensler addressed in 1996 remain with us today. We’d like to encourage everyone to hear these monologues again so we may laugh together, cry together, and learn together.
CONTENT WARNING: Mature audiences only. Not suitable for ages under 15.
The show addresses issues of female identity, sexuality and violence against women. If you’re uncomfortable with these topics the show may not be suitable for you.

ヴァギナモノローグは、現在V-Dayとして国際的な活動となっている、女性や少女に対する性暴力をなくすための活動を世界に呼びかけるきっかけを作りました。

Aichi Vision is an exciting celebration of live theater, film and the arts over March 26th-27th, 2022 in Nagoya, Japan.
Nagoya Players will be presenting The Vagina Monologues as part of the theater portion of Aichi Vision.

Nagoya Players Junior is proud to announce our participation in みんなで育む子どもの未来フェスティバル (The Festival for the Nurturing of Our Children’s Future).
Veteran NP Performers Biajino, Magic Joe, and Jeff-sensei will be conducting FREE workshops for children over the weekend.
Biajino will be performing his interactive English-education show Steve’s Birthday Party. Magic Joe will host his funny and mystifying ESL Magic workshop where children can learn the basics of magic and how to perform simple tricks. And Jeff-sensei will be leading our very popular Dance-in-English workshop for kids.
All NP Junior workshops will be conducted in easy to understand, simple English.
Tickets are available to the public via Teket or in person at Nagoya Citizen’s Gallery Yada starting Feb. 08, 2002. Space is very limited and tickets are distributed on a first come-first served basis.

Roundtable Discussion, ‘Japanese Philosophy and Worldview in Chizawa Bay’
Nagoya Players’ Artistic Director, Shawn Mahler will lead a roundtable discussion for his novel Chizawa Bay at Imaike Library Club on Nov 28th at 13:00.
Chizawa Bay is a slice-of-life novel set in a small, rural seaside community in central Japan. The story dives into the hearts and minds of the residents and explores their relationships and worldviews.
Japanese Philosophy and Worldview in Chizawa Bay will cover just a few of the topics and themes featured in the novel.
This is a FREE event. Please RSVP early to ensure your seat. Space is limited.
You won’t need to have read the novel to join this event. We have selected a few chapters to focus our discussion. We ask that everyone attending familiarize themselves with the following chapters and their themes before the event:
- Chapter 6 – Life Purpose
- Chapter 13 – Spirituality in Japan
- Chapter 17 – Racism in Japan
For anyone who doesn’t own a copy of the book the selected chapters will be available upon request. Please send your request via this form.

We’d like to announce the postponement of Mirai Fes 2020. The event organizers are now planning to hold the event in March 2021.
Nagoya Players will still be participating in the next Mirai Fes. We’ve been preparing for this event for about one year. Now that we have a little more time, we can make even better plans and bring you some very exciting workshops and performances in 2021.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. These are difficult times for everyone. Performers and performance groups in Japan and around the world eagerly await the day we can return to stage.

Postponed•延期 Hana-mi Meet N’ Greet
Due to recent concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 virus, NP has decided to postpone our Hana-mi Meet n’ Greet to a later date.
We still want to get all our NP members and fans together, so once it’s safe to congregate again we will announce a new event.
Sorry to disappoint everyone looking forward to the party, but given the circumstances we feel it’s the best decision to make.

２０２０国際子ども芸術祭のお知らせ
２０２０年５月９日（土）１０日（日）東小文化劇場・市民ギャラリー矢田・東図書館・名城大学ナゴヤドーム前・イオンモールナゴヤドーム前一帯で国際子ども芸術祭が開催されます。世界中からの色んなパーフォマンスが鑑賞できるインターナショナルなイベントで 名古屋プレイヤーズは市民ギャラリーにてワークショップ「英語で遊ぼう」を企画しています。音楽・お話・劇・マジックなど楽しみながら英語に触れ合い、英語にもっと慣れ親しむことができるチャンスに 多くの方のご参加をお待ちしています。

エキサイッティングなMr.ジョーのマジックショーは不思議がいっぱい。卵のマジック、ハンカチのトランスフォーミング、ロープの不思議、カード遊び、トイレットペーパーのティミー。。。次々とマジックが披露され、参加者みなさん、驚きの連続でとっても楽しい時間を過ごすことができました。
ワークショップの終盤にはオリジナル子供用マジックキッドが配られ、アシスタントのエリーさんと一緒にリングを使ったトリックや紐とビーズのトリックを練習しました。紐とビーズの手品は道具が小さかったので、ビーズに紐を通したりするのが大変でしたが、なんとか全員が完成し、ちびっこ手品師が誕生しました！！
たった１時間のワークショップでしたが、子供達の目は輝き、日常では味わえない特別な体験だったと思います。
これからももっと面白い不思議なマジックを披露していく予定です。

It was an absolutely enchanting day at our ESL Magic Class.
Mr Joe wowed kids and parents with a fun and unique performance. There were magical eggs, a transforming handkerchief, shape changing ropes, card tricks and a live roll of toilet paper named Timmy!
After the performance Mr Joe and our lovely assistant Ellie handed out specially made kits. Each kit contained a set of tricks and tools for the kids to use. They learned how to levitate rings, how to make cards suddenly change suit, and how to pass a necklace chain through solid objects. The tricks were a bit challenging and took many tries but they were finally able to do them!
The next generation of magicians shows a lot of promise. We only spent an hour with them, but we can already see the spark for performance in their eyes. We can’t wait to see what new tricks they learn and amaze us with in the future!

Aesop’s Fables @Chubu Walkathon Wrap Up
Outdoor shows are one of the biggest challenges in the world of theater. Not only do you have to act, but you’ve got to do it in the elements, rain or shine!
今回のアウトドアでの公演は初めての試みでとても実りある公演だったと思います。演技だけに集中するのではなく、太陽光の当たり方、強さ、風、雨などの劇場内では感じられない部分がたくさんありました。
The Aesop’s Fables team took on the challenge and put together a fun and energetic show at the 2019 Chubu Walkathon. Thankfully there was plenty of sun, but the wind wasn’t our friend that day! Even so, the cast raised their abilities to another level and fought through the wind to entertain the audience.
「イソップ」チームはみんなで力を合わせ協力しあって、２０１９年中部ウォーカソンに臨みおかげさまで、キャスト・クルー共々多くを学べ、ステップアップできた公演でした。
The Walkathon was a load of fun. We were very honored to be a part of such a fantastic charity event.

長年恒例行事となっている米国商工会議所主催のこのイベントに参加でき、とても光栄に思います。
「イソップ物語」は日本国内のツアー公演をこの秋より開催します。学校行事、地域の行事などでの公園の依頼を受け付け中です。日本各地で一人でも多くの子供達にこの英語劇「イソップ物語」を届け、英語教育に役立てられ、異文化交流ができるよう願っています。
