NP Junior Showcase 2022 Rescheduled•延期

２０２２年２月１９日２０日公演予定名古屋プレイヤーズJr.ショーケースはコロナ・オミクロン株の感染拡大を受けて２０２２年４月９日１０日に延期することになりました。

既に購入済みのチケットはそのまま４月９日１０日に振り替えていただけます。（例えば２月１９日土曜日１７：００のチケットは４月９日土曜日１７：００にそのままシフト）尚、ご都合により、払い戻しをご希望の方はご連絡ください。

公演の延期に伴い、多くの方々にご迷惑をおかけします事をお詫び申し上げます。と同時に、次回公演の際にも皆様のご理解ご協力を賜りますよう宜しくお願い致します。

Due to the ongoing spread of the Omicron-variant Nagoya Players Junior has rescheduled our performance of the NP Junior Showcase 2022.

The show will now take stage April 9-10, 2022. We expect that the virus situation will improve by then. By rescheduling we hope to create a better and safer environment for both performers and audience.

All tickets will be honored. If you’ve already purchased tickets you’ll be contacted shortly with more information.

Nagoya Players Junior Showcase 2022

名古屋プレイヤーズJr.企画「英語で〇〇」シリーズは演劇、ダンス、歌、マジックのワークショップを開催し、多くの方に支持を頂いて来ました。ワークショップに参加した子供達が体感しながら英語を学び、恒例の舞台「Showcase」 に出演します。

Our series of performance based workshops have been popular with both children and adults. We have Acting, Dancing, Singing, Magic workshops and more. Children enrolled in the workshops will learn a performance skill in an immersive English environment. At the end of each program children will then be ready to perform on stage at our annual Showcase.

「Rainbow Connections: The Land of Kindness」

ミニ・ミュージカル「レインボー・コネクションズ」は名古屋プレイヤーズJr.企画「Act in English」の参加者が出演します。主人公のサニーとリリーは自分勝手な女の子。人に親切にすることの大切さを学ぶために２人は不思議な旅に出かけます。このオリジナル作品の音楽、ダンス、歌はすべて英語で演じます。

Journey to Rainbow Connections with the cast of NP Junior’s Act in English Workshop. Sunny and Lily are very naughty children and need to learn the importance of being kind. They go on a magical adventure with many hijinks. Original music, dance and song all performed in English by our Junior performers! Written and Directed by Jeff Fritch, Music by Ben Dorman, Vocals by Aya Kawakami.

Tap Dance 

Jeff Fritch氏はコミカルなプロダンサー。特にタップダンスが専門分野で彼が率いるダンスチームは観客の皆さんも巻き込み、楽しいショーを披露し、「Showcase」の舞台を盛り上げてくれます。一緒にダンスを楽しみたい方はステージの近くにお集まりください。

Professional Dancer Jeff Fritch is known for his wacky and fun dance routines. He’s a tap dance specialist and his team will perform an interactive show with the audience during the Showcase. Sit up close if you wanna learn some fancy dance moves!

ESL Magic

毎回大好評のESL Magicショー。マジック・ジョー氏のカバンから次から次へとトリックが出て来ます。ワクワク・ドキドキしながら大人も子供も釘付け。楽しみながら英語が体感できます。

ESL Magic is an audience favorite. Magic Joe’s bag of tricks is endless. Magic is a great way to inspire and excite children. ESL Magic is a fun combination of entertainment, language-learning and mystery!

「Tasty Cheese」

落語家の太田氏は今回は新しい演目を披露します。『Tasty Cheese/美味しいチーズ』は古典落語「ちりとてちん」を子供向けに簡単でシンプルな英語に脚色しました。日本文化を英語で体感できるユニークな英語学習メソッドをお楽しみください。

Rakugo Performer Mr. Ota returns with a brand new story for this year’s Showcase. Tasty Cheese is an adaptation of the traditional rakugo story 「ちりとてちん」(chiri tote chin). This new version has been designed for children with simple and easy English. It’s a great way to listen, watch and learn English!

There will be a total of 3 performances:
Saturday, Feb 19th: 17:00-18:30
Sunday, Feb 20th: 11:00-12:30, 14:00-15:30

  1. Performed in English, level appropriate for children and beginners.
  2. Performances will be approximately 90 minutes in length.
  3. Nagoya Players Junior Showcase is family-friendly and appropriate for all ages.
  4. The show is free seating, please arrive early to get a good view of the stage.

    ショーケースでの収益金はこの地域で支援を必要としている子供達に贈られます。私たちの活動に賛同いただける方からの支援協力金も募っておりますので、ご協力頂けます方、ご連絡お待ちしています。

    We will be collecting donations at the show to send to local charities in Aichi. Nagoya Players has reached out to local orphanages who have expressed interest in working with us and could benefit from more funding. We are open to charities of all kinds and hope to raise enough money from these shows to make an impactful donation to organizations in need.

    Our Town 2022 Auditions

    Nagoya Players is looking to fill a few roles for our upcoming production of Our Town. Auditions will be held in-person in Imaike on Nov. 21st.

    A few members of the 2021 cast will not be able to rejoin us. Available roles are small to minor with just a few lines of dialogue. These roles are a good opportunity for new actors who would like to get some stage time and experience. And for English-learners who’d like to get some experience working in an English speaking environment.

    Our Town Rehearsals will take place, in-person, on Sundays from Feb 2022-June 2022. Actors will need to be available each Sunday for rehearsal.

    Our Town will be performed June 4-5, 2022. Tech and Dress Rehearsal will be June 3.

    名古屋プレイヤーズでは現在、来年に上演を延期しました舞台「Our Town わが町」の出演者を募集中です。対面形式でのオーディションを11月21日に、名古屋市千種区今池にて行います。

    今年度出演予定でいた方が、来年への延期に伴い出演がかなわなくなったことに伴うオーディションです。小さな役で台詞も多くはありません。舞台の経験があまりない方の、演劇の経験を得てもらうのにはとても良い機会になります。英語学習者の方にとっても、とても良い英語を使う場になるでしょう。

    リハーサルは2022年2月〜6月まで、対面にて行います。

    出演者の皆様には、毎週日曜日のリハーサルへの出席をお願いいたします。

    上演は2022年6月4.5日の2日間で、前日の3日には衣裳付きの最終リハーサルをいたします。

      Our Town 2020-2021 Photo Shoot

      It’s been a long time since we’ve had a Fun Friday. This time we’d like to share some beautiful photos of the Our Town Cast (2020-2021) with you. 

      Photographer Geof Griggs really did an amazing job. He joined us for a morning out at Obata Ryokuchi Park. We didn’t have the whole cast with us, but we were able to capture some pretty stunning portraits.

      Unfortunately, we weren’t able to perform Our Town as scheduled in 2021. But we’ve gotten commitments from the majority of the Cast & Crew to return to the show! And we have new show dates in 2022 too! Please check our website and social media for future updates. You know what they say, “Third time’s a charm!”;)

      Our Town Postponed•延期

      Due to the announcement of the extended State of Emergency Nagoya Players will be postponing the performances of Our Town scheduled for June 12-13th. 

      Unfortunately, the spread of COVID-19 has remained a largely unpredictable and difficult to manage problem in Japan. When we re-launched this production late last year, the information available at that time indicated that the virus would be more under control by our current point in time. News of vaccine development and distribution was very positive and with the upcoming Olympics (still scheduled for summer 2021), we felt confident enough to restart the production. However, we now find ourselves in a very troubling situation and by many measurements the virus situation has gotten worse. It was our sincere hope that the State of Emergency would be lifted in time for the show. But, given the current circumstances we now feel the right course of action is to postpone the show to a later date.

      We have already begun the process of re-booking the show. We are targeting a date in 2022 when, by that time, we truly hope COVID-19 will no longer be a major concern. 

      We sincerely thank all of our Show Supporters and theater patrons for their support during these very challenging times. Full refunds will be issued to everyone who has already purchased their tickets.

      It saddens us greatly to disappoint our fans, followers, Cast and Crew. The show is in fact ready for stage, a testament to all the hard work and sacrifice the Cast and Crew have made. But for the benefit of everyone’s safety and enjoyment we will have to wait a little bit longer to present it to you.

      Nagoya Players will remain active while new plans are being made for our 2022 season. We have a number of projects, events and shows in development. Please follow us on social media and check out our website for future updates.

      名古屋プレイヤーズ主催英語劇「わが町」２０２１年６月１２日（土）１３日（日）公演予定は「緊急事態宣言」延長に伴ない、残念ながら延期することになりました。

      新型コロナウイルス感染は予期せぬ方向に拡大してしまい、去年末にプロダクションの再活動を始めた時は感染拡大がここまで最悪な状況になるとは予想していませんでした。その時点では２０２１年のオリンピック開催に向けてワクチン供給はポジティブに報道されており、名古屋プレイヤーズも６月の公演を前向きに捉えていました。しかしながら、予想に反して状況は改善することはなく、どんどん悪くなる一方で「緊急事態宣言」も６月２０日まで延長されてしまったことを受け、公演を２０２０年に続き２０２１年も延期することが最善であるという結論に達しました。

      私たちは既に来年の公演準備に取り掛かかりましたが、その時には新型コロナウイルスが終息していることを祈るばかりです。

      そして、コロナ禍にも関わらず名古屋プレイヤーズをご支援いただきました方々には心より感謝いたします。購入済みのチケットの払い戻しも行っておりますので、スタッフ、キャストにお問い合わせくださいませ。

      Interview with Our Town’s Masami Iwai

      岩井氏は大学教授の傍、役者としても活躍する多彩な能力の持ち主。非常に高い芸術知識を有し、芸術鑑賞や教材読解だけではなく舞台俳優としても活躍しています。また、チャレンジ精神を絶やすことなく、そこにに楽しみを見出し、役柄を生き生きとさせる、しかも、英語と日本語でこなしてしまうという達人です。

      そんな岩井氏が名古屋プレイヤーズのインタビューに答えてくれました。演劇指導や学習、演技など演劇界での同氏の生き方が伝わります。　次回公演「わが町」ではドクター　ギブス役として出演します。

      英語劇「わが町」は２０２１年６月１２日（土）１３日（日）千種小劇場にて公演予定。チケットはチケットぴあ、The Rock, IPEアカデミーにて購入できます。

      Professor Masami Iwai is the rare combination of theater academic and performer. His knowledge of the craft is vast. But he doesn’t limit himself to just watching shows and reading texts. He also takes the stage. He experiences firsthand the challenges, and the joys, of bringing the characters he plays to life. And what’s more, he can do it in English and Japanese.

      Prof. Iwai was kind enough to sit down with us for a rapid-fire interview. He covers a range of topics from teaching, to studying, to performing. There’s a lot of interesting tidbits to hear about his life in theater.

      Prof. Iwai will be playing the role of DR GIBBS in Nagoya Players’ upcoming production of Our Town.

      Interview with Our Town’s Leona Cameron

      Leona Cameron is a veteran stage performer. She started acting as a child in her hometown of Melbourne, Australia and has remained active in the performing arts ever since. 

      Leona is one of Nagoya’s most well-respected and finest actors. She’s been performing in Japan since 1998 in productions of all sizes and shows of all genres.

      We were very happy for the opportunity to sit down for a quick Q&A with Leona to learn more about her background and what makes her tick.

      Leona will be playing the role of MRS. WEBB in Nagoya Players’ upcoming production of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town. She is such a special and powerful performer. You really don’t want to miss it.

      Joe Sichi definitely knows how to spin a yarn;) Nagoya Player’s Artistic Director, Shawn Mahler, sits down for an interview with Joe to discuss our upcoming production of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town.

      Joe is the show’s director and plays a lead role as STAGE MANAGER. In this interview Joe recounts his life in LA, connections to the performing arts, his work in Japan and the meaning of Our Town.

      It’s a long-form conversation and we let Joe go loose. A great listen filled with great stories and insights.

      Our Town Study Guide•「わが町」スタディガイド

      Nagoya Players’ English Education Initiative is back with our latest offering for our upcoming production of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, June 12-13th, Chikusa Playhouse.

      The Our Town Study Guide has been developed for intermediate English learners and is appropriate for ages 13+. The guide is flexible enough to be used in large group classes or in private lessons. And for stronger English speakers it can be self-studied.

      The Our Town show and Study Guide have both received stamps of approval from Aichi Board of Education and the Nagoya City Board of Education.

      The exercises can be done in sections or studied from cover to cover. Go at your own pace. We hope it can be used by teachers and students in order to prepare them for the show.

      English-learners who complete the Study Guide, watch the performance and then return to the classroom for post-show analysis and critique will benefit greatly from the experience.

      The guide is print-ready and completely free to use and distribute.

      Interview with Our Town’s Emily & Shinsuke

      The young stars of NP’s production of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town sit down for an interview to discuss the show. They talk about their characters EMILY WEBB and GEORGE GIBBS, the challenges of preparing for a show during a pandemic, the show’s themes of Life, Love and Death and much more.

      This is Emily’s first leading role in Japan and Shinsuke’s English-acting debut! We’re so proud of them. They’ve been working for well over a year and have diligently studied their characters. It’s one of the best EMILY & GEORGE combinations we’ve ever seen.
