Interview with Romeo & Juliet’s Yoko Toki
(English Below) 名古屋プレイヤーズ英語演劇に初出演のようこさん。とても情熱的で演技力があり信頼できる新メンバーの一人です。近日公演の「ロミオとジュリエット」ではアブラハム役を演じ他のキャストと合同で演じるアンサンブルでも大活躍します。
彼女はトレーニングや練習に積極的に参加し、エネルギーを吹き込んでくれる新メンバーの一人。そんなようこさんだからこそ、練習を積み重ね次回舞台での配役を獲得することができました。英語力の高さは問題ではなく、「やればできる」という挑戦を持って益々腕を磨き上げていきます。
沢山準備して臨んだ彼女の英語劇初舞台を心待ちにしています。多くの方々の観覧をお待ちしています。

(日本語と英語の字幕) Yoko is new to Nagoya Players and has impressed us with her passion, commitment, and ability. She’ll be playing the role of ABRAHAM and is also a key member of ENSEMBLE in Nagoya Players’ upcoming production on Romeo & Juliet.
Yoko is a great example of a newcomer who flourishes with training and practice. She first started with NP during our Acting Basics Workshop and showed great potential. From there, she auditioned and got a part in the show. And even though Yoko’s English isn’t perfect, she doesn’t let that stop her from participating and getting better.
Yoko has put in a lot of work preparing for the show, and we’re so excited to see her perform in her first English play. Please come out and support her and the other members of cast.

Interview with Romeo & Juliet’s Emily Bailey
(日本語と英語の字幕) Fan favorite Emily Bailey is back again. She’ll be playing the role of MERCUTIO in Nagoya Players’ upcoming production on Romeo & Juliet.
Emily has been performing with NP since 2019 and has taken on a wide variety of roles in that time. In this interview, we catch up with Emily and hear about her performances in 2023 — Edward Albee Showcase and Untolled. She then discusses her thoughts on MERCUTIO, Shakespeare, and more.
Emily is always a delight to watch perform, and her approach to the sword-wielding jokester of Romeo & Juliet, MERCUTIO, is unique and refreshing. Please come watch Emily in what is proving to be a very exciting and dynamic production.

The Jollyville Treasure Teaser #1
(ENGLISH BELOW) 名古屋プレイヤーズジュニア・エレメンタリーチームは次の舞台「ジョリーヴィレ トレジャー」の振り付けやダンスの練習を５月から励んでいます。
子供達が毎週上達していく様子を見守り誇らしく思う一方で、まだまだ舞台の完成までは長い道のりがあるので努力を重ねて成長していってもらいたいと思います。
今年度NPJショーケースは２０２４年１２月１４日（土）１５日（日）に青少年交流プラザ・ユースクエアにて公演予定です。チケットの予約はしばらくお待ちください。

For the past two months, Nagoya Players Junior’s Elementary Troupe has been working hard learning the choreography and dance routines for our new mini-musical, The Jollyville Treasure.
It’s really inspiring and fun to watch this group of youngsters develop and learn. They still have a long way to go before they master the steps and singing, but they’re making great progress.
NPJ Showcase 2024 will take stage Dec 14-15 at Youth Square. Show and ticket information coming soon!

Interview with Romeo & Juliet’s Nandini Shah
(日本語と英語の字幕) Nandini Shah is a new member of Nagoya Players and new to stage performance. She has been a shining example of someone who has taken their interest in the performing arts from simple curiosity to brilliant reality.
Nandini is a professional educator as well as an admirer of Shakespeare. As a teacher, she wanted to do more than just read and examine the texts of Shakespeare’s plays. Over the past year, she has embraced the challenge of learning how the plays are performed by actually performing in one of them.
Nandini will be playing LADY CAPULET in NP’s upcoming production of Romeo & Juliet. She has done a fantastic job learning stage performance, and every week we are impressed with her continued growth as a performer. Nandini is a powerful presence on stage, and we are certain her portrayal of LADY CAPULET will be a memorable one.

Interview with Romeo & Juliet’s Kory Alexander Majansky
(日本語と英語の字幕) Kory Alexander Majansky is a tour de force. Acting, movement, song, and dance, Kory can do it all. Everyone at NP has been absolutely blown away by their talent. Kory will be performing the role of FRIAR JOHN as well as ENSEMBLE in NP’s upcoming production of Romeo & Juliet.
Kory is a new arrival to Nagoya, recently moving here from the US where they studied acting in New York. They have also produced and directed their own original plays, and later this year will debut a new original work, The Marble Moons of Gakki Machi at Nanjare theater in Nagoya.
In this interview, we get to know a little more about Kory and the work they have been doing as an ensemble member. Kory is one of the best new talents we’ve ever seen. You definitely don’t want to miss their performance in Romeo & Juliet.

Interview with Romeo & Juliet’s Ana Valdes Lim
(日本語と英語の字幕) Ana Valdes Lim has stolen the hearts of Nagoya Players, and we suspect that she’ll steal yours too. This September, Ana makes her directorial debut in Japan with her adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet.
Ana previously performed with NP as an actress, playing the role of GRANDMA in Edward Albee’s American Dream (2023). After which, she took on the position of acting coach and conducted a series of very successful acting workshops for NP. She’s now heading a large show with a cast of veterans and newcomers, full of music, song, combat, and dance. Ana is a very impressive artist, and we are so incredibly grateful to work with her.
In this interview, Ana shares a little bit about her process as an actor and director, as well as her thoughts on Shakespeare.

ABOUT THE SHOW•作品について
Romeo and Juliet is one of William Shakespeare’s most famous plays. The original story was set in the Italian city of Verona and revolved around the passionate love between two young members of feuding noble families, the Montagues and the Capulets. Themes of love, fate, youth, and destruction are presented for the audience with both humor and heartbreak.
In this new adaptation, Shakespeare’s classic story of love, romance, and tragedy has been carefully re-envisioned with elements of music and dance, as well as modern show design by Show Director Ana Valdes Lim. The show will be performed in Shakespearean English with modern set and costume.
「ロミオとジュリエット」はウィリアムシェイクスピアによる、世界で最もよく知られた戯曲のひとつです。
原作はイタリアの街ヴェローナの名門モンタギューとキャピュレット家の若い2人の、愛と憎しみ、若さゆえの破壊をユーモアと激情を織り交ぜ描かれています。
今回の上演作品では、原作の恋愛と悲劇を中心に上げ、音楽とダンスを重要な要素として取り入れました。
演出のアナ・ヴァルデス・リム氏が、現代の観客向けに、物語の進行スピードを上げて視覚で楽しめる作品になるように細部に渡りこだわったオリジナル作品に仕上げました。

Ana Valdes Lim has over 40 years of experience acting and coaching actors for stage, TV, and film. She holds degrees in Theater from The Juilliard School, in Education from the University of Hawaii, and in Arts Management from the Asian Institute of Management. She is also the author of four books on acting.

Hana-mi 2024 Postponed•延期
今週水曜日の花見パーティですが、延期とさせていただきます。天気予報によると、雨、強風、寒さと３拍子揃い、こんな日に外でおしゃべりしてたら風邪をひいてしまいそうで、お花見日和ではなさそうです。延期となる日時はまだ決まっていませんが、決まりましたらお知らせいたします。
名古屋プレイヤーズとジュニアと両方で４０名ほど参加予定でしたが、次の機会にお会いできることを楽しみにしています。
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the weather will be very pleasant on Wednesday afternoon. We’re expecting cold temperatures, strong wind, and rain. Not the ideal conditions for a Hana-mi party. We have decided to reschedule the event. At the moment, we don’t have a date in mind, but we will post new details as soon as they become available.
We apologize to everyone who has signed up. We had a very large group coming to this year’s party, but don’t worry, we will be getting back together soon.
NPJ Showcase 2024
ショーケースについて
名古屋プレイヤーズ・ジュニア・ショーケース２０２４は前回と同様オリジナル・ミニ・ミュージカルに一幕劇を加えて、２つの演目を予定しています。演劇を通して子供達の英語力を高め、表現力や踊りの技術を磨き、ボーカルのトレーニングも取り入れ、バージョンアップした作品をお届けします。
２０２４年度舞台はElementaryチーム（５〜９歳）とPre-teenチーム（１０〜１３歳）の２つのグループを構成し、Elementaryチームはオリジナル・ミニ・ミュージカル 「The Jollyville Treasure」、Pre-Teenクラスは「The Cat Who Walked by Herself 」を演じます。
前回の舞台では幼児チームも出演しましたが、子供達も年を重ね成長してきました。そこで、今年度は小学生チームには5歳から参加可能とし、小学生高学年以上は別の舞台を制作することになりました。
The Jollyville Treasureはオリジナルミュージカルで「幸福への鍵」をテーマに子供達が宝のありかを示した地図を見つけ、宝探しに出来かける話です。その宝探しの道中には不思議な生き物に出会い、宝箱の鍵のありかを教えてもらいます。
Pre-Teen グループが演ずるThe Cat Who Walked by Herself はオリジナルの一幕劇でイギリスの作家ラドヤード・キップリングの『独りで歩いた猫』を脚色した作品です。ESL（English as a Second Language英語以外を母国語とする人たちのための英語)の教材に舞台演出を加え、友達や家族の絆をメッセージとし、少しだけコメディタッチに脚色しました。英語のレベルを上げて高学年から中学にかけて英語力向上へ繋げていけることと思います。
脚本、舞台演出、振り付け、音楽はShawn先生、Jeff先生、Ben先生、あやこ先生の４人が再び担当します。
英語力が初級レベルでも舞台演技が好きな方なら参加可能です。役柄は各々の個性やレベルに合わせて割り当てられます。
オーディションは５月１１日土曜日に行います。
名古屋プレイヤーズショーケース２０２４の本番は名古屋市青少年交流プラザ ユースクエアにて１２月公演予定しています。
ワークショップについて
オープン・ワークショップは４月に３回開催されます。
初めて英語劇に挑戦する方も経験者の方もどなたでもご参加ください。オープンワークショップは子供達が舞台演劇を体験できるように構成され、いろんな英語表現や実際の舞台で演じる動作を学び、オーディションに備えた指導をします。また、参加者の子供達だけでなく、保護者様にも劇団について知っていただく良い機会となります。
ショーケース・ワークショップ（舞台稽古）は２０２４年５月〜１２月の土曜日に今池スタジオまたは内山コミュニティーセンターにて行います。
このワークショップでは１２月の公演に向けて英語表現、演技、ダンス、ヴォーカルの技術を学びます。

創業４０年英会話教室IPEアカデミーは０歳からご年配の方まで幅広い年齢の方が楽しく英語が学べるコースを取り揃えています。通常の英会話クラスに加えて、英語を使って音楽、アート、演技、歌など芸術を体感しながら英語に触れ合うことができる体感型クラスを設けています。

地声での歌唱を得意とするポピュラーシンガーとして活動。 劇団四季では各公演カンパニーにて音楽歌唱指導、呼吸法指導など行う。

English Education Initiative (EEI)
EEI ( ナゴヤ・プレイヤーズ英語教育研究会）では英語習得を目指しているの方々が楽しみながら英語をマスターできるようサポート活動しています。
生きた英語を身につけるにはなるべく早い段階で英語環境を作ることが鍵だと考えます。
バイリンガルの子供達は月齢が早い段階で、その外国語環境を整えることにより外国語を身につけています。それは将来に向けての揺るぎない財産になることは間違いありません。そこで、私たち名古屋プレイヤーズは「初級」「中級」「上級」を対象にしたプログラムを作成し英語環境作りをお手伝いして参ります。
