CAMPFIRE 絵本のプロジェクト

(CAMPFIRE Crowdfunding Campaign. English Below)

名屋プレイヤーズはこの度新しいプロジェクトを立ち上げました。CAMPFIREというクラウドファンディング・サイトを通してできるだけ多くの皆様からご理解とご支援を賜り、このプロジェクトを成功させたいと心より願っております。

また、私たち名古屋プレイヤーズは英語演劇活動だけではなく、それに伴う語学学習や学習支援の推進にも力を注いでいます。

次回作「賢者の贈り物」の公演にあたり、子どもたちのために多言語の絵本を制作しました。私たちは資金を募ってこの本を出版し、出来上がった本を病院、孤児院、保育所、恵まれない子供たちの施設などに寄付したいと考えています。もしもこの本が恵まれない子どもたちに小さな喜びとやる気をプレゼントできるなら、こんなに 嬉しいことはありません。

2019年の名古屋プレイヤーズは「誰もが楽しめる劇」をテーマに活動していますが、家族全員が楽しめることをとても大切にしています。私たちは、特に若い世代と子どもたちが劇に参加してくれる事を強く望んでいます。昨年以来とても充実した活動を行っていますが、このようなプロジェクトを実施することにより、これからもさらに発展していきたいと願っています。もしもこのCAMPFIRE計画が成功すれば、もっと多くのより良い補助教材を今後の公演のために提供することができます。このキャンペーンが成功しますよう暖かいご支援をお願い申し上げます。恵まれない子供たちに絵本を届けるという私たちの目標を達成するためには、皆様のお力が必要なのです。

Nagoya Players is very excited (and a bit nervous) to announce an ambitious new project.

We have launched our first ever crowdfunding project on Camp-fire.jp.

With every theatrical production we do, we also make companion materials to support language education and acquisition.

For our next show, The Gift of the Magi, we have developed a multilingual picture book for child learners. We’d like to find the funds to produce a psychical print run and then donate these copies to hospitals, orphanages, care-centers and charities that attend to children in need. It is our hope that the gift of these books brings a little joy and inspiration to children who may need it the most.

Our theme for the 2019 season has been Accessibility & Inclusivity, with an emphasis on family-entertainment. We’ve focused especially on encouraging youth and children to participate in our shows. It’s been a wildly productive year thus far. We hope to continue building on this momentum with projects such as this. If our CAMPFIRE project proves successful, you can expect more and better companion materials for future productions. Please help us by supporting the campaign. Each backer gets us closer to our goal of providing physical copies of the books to those children in need.

Nagoya Players is very proud to announce our newest Show Supporter for The Gift of the Magi, The General Union.

For many of us involved in language education in Japan organizations like The General Union serve a vital function in our community. The GU has been a staunch advocate for workers rights and benefits. We’ve all heard bizarre and terrifying stories of teachers not receiving pay or being unfairly treated at their workplace. When such conflicts occur The GU has risen to the occasion to help these teachers in their greatest time of need.

The General Union is a legally registered labour/trade union, part of the Japanese labour union movement, and are open to workers of any category or nationality. Since it was founded in 1991, The GU has established a solid reputation for protecting its members’ rights and improving their working conditions.

The GU is comprised of everyday workers who have joined together to protect our livelihoods and rights as workers. As a union, they provide members with advice on workplace issues, and actively help with negotiations in the workplace.

The General Union is part of a national private sector trade union known as the National Union of General Workers (Zenkoku-Ippan). And they belong to a confederation known as Zenrokyo (National Trade Union Council).

The GU has an ongoing enrollment for new members. It is highly recommended that new arrivals to Japan, especially those in the language-learning industry join. In these unstable times, the function of The GU has become increasingly more important. To this day The GU remains a valuable resource for knowledge and advice about labor policy in Japan.

Announcing the Cast of The Gift of the Magi

Nagoya Players is very happy to announce the cast for our upcoming production of The Gift of the Magi. The show is based on the classic and beloved short story of the same name by O. Henry and has been adapted for stage by playwright Jon Jory.

The Gift of the Magi is our second show of the 2019 season and continues our focus on family entertainment. It’s a wholesome show, appropriate for all ages, and promotes good family values. There will be plenty of song, music and dance for everyone to enjoy!

If you enjoyed Aesop’s Fables then you’ll definitely want to see The Gift of the Magi. It’s a heartwarming tale of love and sacrifice and really captures the true spirit of Christmas.

We have been extremely fortunate to get some of the Nagoya’s best acting, singing and dance talent for the show. We’ve also discovered many new faces that will blow you away when they take the stage. This is our big show of the year and we have a lot of amazing things planned for you.

We are looking to add a few more singers and background dancers as well. We also need stagehands, techs, front of house, promoters and more! All are welcome. 次回公演オー・ヘンリー作「賢者の贈り物」は長く愛されてきた短編小説でジョン・ジョリーによる脚本です。
２０１９年に入り２回目の公演で「賢者の贈り物」は、先回と同様、家族向けに構成され、歌や音楽、踊りをたくさん盛り込み、老若男女問わず、幅広い年齢層の方々に楽しんでいただける作品に仕上げます。「イソップ物語」を観劇された方なら、次回「賢者の贈り物」も心温まるお話でクリスマス・スピリットを体感していただける最適なストーリーと言えます。

幸運なことに、素晴らしい演者たち、歌い手、踊り手にも恵まれ、また、新しく参加してくれるキャストにも巡り合え、エキサイティングな大舞台になるよう企画しています。

Aesop’s Fables @Chubu Walkathon Wrap Up

Outdoor shows are one of the biggest challenges in the world of theater. Not only do you have to act, but you’ve got to do it in the elements, rain or shine!

今回のアウトドアでの公演は初めての試みでとても実りある公演だったと思います。演技だけに集中するのではなく、太陽光の当たり方、強さ、風、雨などの劇場内では感じられない部分がたくさんありました。

The Aesop’s Fables team took on the challenge and put together a fun and energetic show at the 2019 Chubu Walkathon. Thankfully there was plenty of sun, but the wind wasn’t our friend that day! Even so, the cast raised their abilities to another level and fought through the wind to entertain the audience.

「イソップ」チームはみんなで力を合わせ協力しあって、２０１９年中部ウォーカソンに臨みおかげさまで、キャスト・クルー共々多くを学べ、ステップアップできた公演でした。

The Walkathon was a load of fun. We were very honored to be a part of such a fantastic charity event.

名古屋プレイヤーズはIPEアカデミーと共同で子供のためのステージプロジェクトを企画しました。英語劇「イソップ物語」に出演したウサギ役のデニースさんとロバ役のナディアさんが月に２回づつ英語で歌と演技を指導します。

Denise Hewitt先生が正しい英語の音の出し方から、息継ぎの仕方、歌い方など基礎から指導します。このワークショップで練習した英語の歌は２０１９年１２月７日（土）８日（日）東文化小劇場にて公演予定英語劇「賢者の贈り物」の舞台で披露する予定です（希望者のみでも大丈夫）曲目はクリスマス定番曲「Up on the Housetop」

    子供の頃から１０代にかけてカナダ・トロントにあるコーラスグループ（The Toronto Bach’s Children’s Chorus and St. John’s Presbyterian Milliken Choir）に所属し、コーラス、クラッシック、ブロードウェイミュージックなどの声楽を学びました。また、日本でもMaple Leaf Learning出版の英語テキストのナレーションや、企業向けの音声教材を吹き替えています。その他、２０１３年以来名古屋でミュージカル劇にも多数出演し活躍しています。

    EEI ( ナゴヤ・プレイヤーズ英語教育研究会）では英語習得を目指しているの方々が楽しみながら英語をマスターできるようサポート活動しています。

    生きた英語を身につけるにはなるべく早い段階で英語環境を作ることが鍵だと考えます。

    バイリンガルの子供達は月齢が早い段階で、その外国語環境を整えることにより外国語を身につけています。それは将来に向けての揺るぎない財産になることは間違いありません。そこで、私たち名古屋プレイヤーズは「初級」「中級」「上級」を対象にしたプログラムを作成し英語環境作りをお手伝いして参ります。

    Aesop’s Fables at 2019 Walkathon

    Nagoya Players is very excited to announce an encore performance of Aesop’s Fables at this year’s Chubu Walkathon International Charity Festival.

    There will be two performances during the day, approximately 20 minutes each, with selected scenes from the show.

    The Walkathon will be held:

    Nagoya Players is very honored to be a part of this amazing event. The Chubu Walkathon is now in it’s 28th year. Each year they have raised several million yen which is then donated to a host of charities to support Children in Need, People with Different Abilities, Hospital Patients and more.

    It is a day filled with games, great food, live entertainment, and of course plenty of exercise.

    This was just one of the many important morals Aesop shared with us in Nagoya’s Players’ recent production of Aesop’s Fables. We love having fun. And we were so happy to work with Magician Mr Joe that we couldn’t wait to do it again!

    Mr Joe will be appearing alongside Aesop’s Fables at the 28th Annual Chūbu Walkathon at Moricoro Park on May 19th.

    Mr Joe is a big hit with the kids and will mystify parents too with his signature Bag o’ Tricks.

    Please join us at the Walkathon for some magic and theatrics!

    And a reminder, Mr Joe will also be conducting an ESL Magic Class on May 26th in Imaike. Great for children and parents who want to learn magic and English!

    みんな集まりお酒を交えてゲームやディスカッションをしながら、楽しい時間を過ごしました。

    What an incredible night! The Cast & Crew of Aesop’s Fables gathered at Show Supporter, Xlingual, for a night of games, discussion and LOTS of drinking!

    パーティはまず、「この人は誰でしょう？」例えば、「ロバの鳴き声が上手な人を探してください」とか「３ヶ国語以上話せる人を探してください」など、緊張がほぐれるように楽しいゲームから始まりました。

    We started the night with a round of Find Someone Who… and discovered that many of the guests could speak three or more languages, could sing well, and could Heeee Haaaaw! like a donkey.

    マジシャンのMr.ジョーも手品を披露。デニースがアシスタントとなり、ルービックキューブとお馴染みのマジックロープでみんなを驚かせてくれました。

    Magician Mr Joe made an appearance as well. He wowed everyone one with some cool Rubik’s Cube tricks and his signature magic rope. With help from his new assistant Denise he stunned the crowd with a very clever card trick too.

    そして「Pin the Tail on the Donkey」目隠しをして、壁に描いてあるロバのお尻にしっぽをピン打ちするゲームを楽しみました。ミツラちゃんが見事にロバのお尻にしっぽをつけてくれ一等賞をゲット。

    We then played a game of Pin the Tail on the Donkey but it went pretty quickly. Our champion, Mitra, pinned the tail on her first try and won the prize.

    その後、パーティのメインパート、キャストとクルーによるパネルディスカション。Xリンガルのブライアンさんが進行を勤め「イソップ物語」制作に関する裏話が飛び交いました。その中にディレクターのショーン　マーラーはどんな監督さん？という問いかけに「穏やかだが、芯がある」という回答をくれました。楽しい時間はあっという間に過ぎてしまうものでワインもたっぷりとあり終電さえ乗らなくてもよければ一晩中でも話しあかせそうなひと時でした。

    We then moved on to the highlight of the evening, a panel discussion with the Cast & Crew. Brian moderated the talk and we heard a lot of interesting and insightful details about the making of Aesop’s Fables. The Cast took questions from the audience and we learned that Director Shawn Mahler, is patient but firm. We could have talked all night but there was plenty more wine to drink!

    パーティに参加いただいた方々、ありがとうございました。おかげさまで、「イソップ物語」プロダクションを無事に素晴らしい形で終了することができました。

    The party went into full swing and we ended up drinking and chatting till midnight! If it wasn’t for last train we may never have gone home!

    Thank you to everyone who attended the party, it was such a special way to bring the first production of Aesop’s Fables to a close.
