名古屋プレイヤーズJr. ショーケース2023
次回の名古屋プレイヤーズJr.ショーケースは再びオリジナル・ミニ・ミュージカルが登場します。舞台に参加する子供たちは英語・演技・ダンスを学び 今回はボーカルトレーニングも取り入れて、バージョンアップします。
次の舞台のタイトルは「Penny’s World of Dreams」。「分かち合い」をテーマにストーリーが展開します。
Pennyは夢の中。クッキーパーティが始まります。豚のおもちゃZAGはとっても意地悪。お友達みんなを傷つけてしまいます。さあ、友達を助けるためにPennyのアドベンチャーが始まります。
ジェフ・フリッチ氏が再び舞台を演出し、ベン・ドーマン氏が音楽を担当します。
第４回名古屋プレイヤーズ・ショーケース２０２３「Penny’s World of Dreams」の舞台では年中さん〜小学６年生のお子様の参加を募集いたします。初めての方、英語レベル初級の方でも大歓迎！！それぞれのレベルに合った役が当てられます。そして、３回のワークショップ参加後、舞台に出てみたいなって思ったら、６月から始まる本コースにお申し込みください。また、今年度は配役を決めるために小学生のみ５月２０日（土）にオーディションを行います。
また、「Penny`s World of Dreams」は２０２３年１２月ユースクエアで公演を予定しています。
ワークショップについて
４・５月に3回オープンワークショップを開催します。
初めての方も経験者もみ〜んな大歓迎です。このオープンワークショップはパフォーミングアートへの導入編。舞台で必要な英語表現やパフォーマンスアクションを学びます。ワークショップに参加してみて、１２月の舞台で「やってみたい！」と思ったら、是非、本コースへお申し込みください。ワークショップでは次の舞台で使用する音楽やセリフも指導します。オープンワークショップを受講するとオーディションが受けやすくなりますが、経験者に限り、オープンワークショップ受講が必須ではありません。
オープンワークショップ3回の後、オーディションを経て、本コース（舞台に向けた練習）「Showcase Workshop」が６月から始まります。練習場所は今池スタジオまたは内山コミュニティーセンターにて開催します。
半年間の練習期間はお子様の送迎や宿題のフォローなど保護者のご協力が不可欠となりますので、ご理解とご協力をお願いいたします。

English Education Initiative (EEI)
EEI ( ナゴヤ・プレイヤーズ英語教育研究会）では英語習得を目指しているの方々が楽しみながら英語をマスターできるようサポート活動しています。
生きた英語を身につけるにはなるべく早い段階で英語環境を作ることが鍵だと考えます。
バイリンガルの子供達は月齢が早い段階で、その外国語環境を整えることにより外国語を身につけています。それは将来に向けての揺るぎない財産になることは間違いありません。そこで、私たち名古屋プレイヤーズは「初級」「中級」「上級」を対象にしたプログラムを作成し英語環境作りをお手伝いして参ります。
Announcing the Cast of the Edward Albee Showcase
(日本語は英語に続く) Nagoya Players is making a return to the blackbox, and it’s going to be really fun. Edward Albee is one of theater’s preeminent playwrights, and his one-act shows are considered some of the best ever written.
We will perform The Sandbox, The American Dream, and Counting the Ways this Spring at Sasashima Studio. Albee’s plays can be intense, and the acting talent needed to perform them has to be top-notch. NP has called upon its best veteran as well as up-and-coming performers to put this show together.
The leads from Nagoya Players’ Our Town, Emily Bailey and Shinsuke Tsuda, will be back on stage together, but in very different roles. Emily will be playing MOMMY in The Sandbox and MRS BARKER in The American Dream. Shinsuke has proven himself a very comical actor and will be playing YOUNG MAN in The Sandbox and re-appearing as YOUNG MAN in The American Dream.
Also from the incredible Our Town cast, we have Joe Sichi, Michael Kruse, Atsumi Yamamoto, and Holly McNamee. In the Sandbox, we have Joe as MUSICIAN, Michael as DADDY, and Atsumi as the adorably profound GRANDMA. For The American Dream, Joe will take on the role of DADDY, and Atsumi will be his strong-willed wife MOMMY.
Counting the Ways is one of Albee’s more philosophical pieces about the relationship between husband and wife, and we have cast the perfect couple of Michael as HE and Holly as SHE to show us all the turmoil.
And we’re very excited to have Ana Valdes-Lim make her acting debut in Japan with us. Ana is a recent arrival to Nagoya and comes to us from the Philippines where she spent many years working as a professional actor, acting coach, and theater director. Ana will be playing the enigmatic GRANDMA in The American Dream.
Nagoya Players’ Creative Director, Shawn Mahler, will be directing the show. He’ll be accompanied by Thembi Msiza as Stage Manager and Chifumi Arima with Subtitles.
The strength of this cast has us very excited. We really encourage everyone to get tickets for this show. It’s going to be a memorable and impactful performance.

名古屋プレイヤーズは今回、最も得意とします小劇場公演で皆さまに楽しんでいただきます。エドワード•オールビーは、最も才能を高く評価される脚本家の1人であり、特に一幕劇を描かせたら右に出る者はいないと言われています。
今回私たちは、「砂場」「アメリカンドリーム」「花占い」の3作品をこの春、ささしまスタジオにて上演します。オールビーの作品の理解は難しく、一流の俳優たちによる、演技に高い技術が求められます。今回、今までの作品で充分な技術をもった役者が育った事、そしてもともと高い演技力をもつベテランの役者がメンバーに加わったことで、この公演に挑戦することになりました。
2022年夏の公演「Our Town（わが町）」で主演を務めた2人、エミリー•ベイリーと津田慎介が再び舞台にあがります。今回は全く違った役柄です。エミリーは、「砂場」では母親役を、「アメリカンドリーム」ではバーカー夫人を演じます。慎介は２つの作品共に若い青年です。彼が得意とするのがコミカルな役柄だと言うことを証明しています。
まだまだ「Our Town」からの役者たちがいます。ジョー•シキ、マイケル•クルーズ、山本温美、ホリー•マクネミーの4人です。「砂場」ではジョーはミュージシャン、マイケルは父親、そして温美がとても難しい役であるおばあちゃんに挑戦します。「アメリカンドリーム」ではジョーが父親、そして彼に強い影響を与える妻である母親を演じます。
「花占い」はオールビーの最も哲学的な作品で、夫婦関係を描いています。今回は夫役をマイケルが、ホリーが妻を演じ、2人の動乱をご覧に入れます。
アナ•バルデス•リンの、日本デビュー作品が本公演となることを紹介できることを嬉しく思います。アナは、フィリピンから来日してまもないのですが、長年にわたりプロの役者、演技指導者、舞台演出家として活躍していました。「アメリカンドリーム」アナの謎めいたおばあちゃん役は必見です。
本作品は名古屋プレイヤーズの総監督であるショーン•マーラー演出です。ツェンビ•ミシィザが舞台監督として彼を支え、有馬ちふ美が字幕を担当します。

Edward Albee Showcase
ABOUT THE SHOW
Edward Albee is one of America’s most esteemed playwrights. He is a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner and is perhaps most well-known for his Broadway smash hit, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.
Albee was a prolific writer and rose to prominence in New York’s theater scene. His first success as a playwright was with his 1959 one-act show, The Zoo Story. Fans and scholars of Albee have suggested that his power as a writer is felt most strongly in his short, one-act shows. Albee’s early career was heavily dedicated to the one-act format, and he would continue writing and experimenting in this style throughout his entire life.
Nagoya Players is excited to present three of Albee’s best one-act shows together, The Sandbox, The American Dream, and Counting the Ways. These shows will be performed in an intimate blackbox environment, where the audience can really feel the energy and emotions of the characters.
Albee shows are a bit complex and there’s lots of humor in the wordplay. We’ve gathered some of the best acting talent in the city to put this show together. It’s been a long time since we’ve performed this level of show, and we believe it’ll be a real treat for theater fans wanting something brainy and witty to enjoy.
エドワードオールビーはアメリカではもっとも敬愛される脚本家の1人です。ピューリツァー賞とトニー賞の授賞歴がありブロードウェイで大人気を博した「ヴァージニアウォルフなんか怖くない」は多くの人が知る作品となっています。
オールビーは大変たくさんの作品を残していて、数々の作品がニューヨークで賞賛されてきました。彼の最初の成功は1959年の一幕劇「動物園」です。多くの批評家や観客が、彼の短い脚本の中に強い信念を描いていると感じたといいます。初期のオールビーは、一幕劇を中心に描いていて、挑戦的にこのスタイルで描き続けると話しています。
この度私たち名古屋プレイヤーズは、オールビーの作品の中から「砂場」「アメリカンドリーム」「花占い」の3作品を満を辞して上演いたします。少ない舞台セットでの公演で、観客の皆様に登場人物のエネルギーや感情を間近でお届けします。
オールビーの作品は複雑で難解ですが、ユーモアや言葉遊びに溢れています。名古屋の才能溢れる役者たちによる演技で、皆さまに見て頂けることを光栄に思います。このように難しい演劇を上演できるようになるまでに重ねてきた努力も、評価していただけましたら幸いです。本物の演劇を知り、知的な機知に富んだ時間を過ごしていただけることを確信しています。

Leona’s Send-Off Party
Please join us Feb. 12 to say goodbye to one of Nagoya’s best actors and educators, Leona Cameron.
Leona will be relocating to Tokyo this Spring. She has been such a large and memorable part of several communities during her time in Nagoya. NP will particularly miss her as she has been absolutely amazing in every performance she has done with us. An actor of her talent and ability is rare, and we thank her for being a part of our troupe.
The Send-Off Party will be held at The Rock, Sun., Feb. 12, 18:30~20:30. Pay-as-you-go. Colleagues, co-workers, friends, neighbors…all are invited.
Joe Sichi may be convinced to prepare some homemade party dishes if we pressure him enough;)

We are so excited to announce that Nagoya Players Junior Showcase 2022: Original Cast Recording is now available for download and streaming!
Thank you to everyone who was able to experience our live performance this month. It was an amazing weekend filled with positive energy and lots of fun!
The music featured in the performances of Rainbow Connections: The Land of Kindness and A Day in the Life of Boogy are both included on the album.
NPJ Music Composer Ben Dorman and Lyricist Jeff Fritch have done a masterful job working with the children’s vocals and putting this playful album together. Please support Ben and the NPJ performers by downloading and streaming the songs on your music platform of choice. ‘Untolled’ Open Auditions
The Nagoya Players invite you to audition for our 2023 production of the light comedy, Untolled.
ABOUT THE SHOW
Untolled is an original play written by Joe Sichi. The plot centers on a theater troupe attempting to put on Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams, the Director’s favorite playwright. The production is thrown into turmoil by societal, generational, group dynamic, personal and personnel problems. Can they pull this off?
Untolled is a light comedy and a “non-musical, musical”. The latter will be explained at auditions.
AUDITIONS
Auditions will be held in-person, Sunday, November 27 at IPE Academy in Imaike. Please RSVP via the form on our website. Auditions typically take between 20~30 minutes. Audition materials will be provided beforehand.
Untolled is tentatively scheduled to take stage Fall 2023. Rehearsals will be in-person at Uchiyama Community Center in Imaike on Sundays.

There are many roles and we welcome those with acting experience and those without. Brief descriptions are below and you can ask to audition for particular roles. We may also ask you to read a second or third choice.
